PROPOSED
STANDARD LANGUAGE CHANGES
ATTENTION: PROPOSED STANDARD LANGUAGE CHANGES
Harlequin description
After much discussion regarding the revision of the
Harlequin Standard and based on a number of good and
well thought out suggestions that were received below
is the language which has been submitted to AKC for
their review. This is the version referred to
previously as Version 5.
While some might prefer some modification to the
version listed below, the Standard Committee and the
GDCA Board have decided that, since this version has
received the largest membership support, that this is
the version we are submitting to AKC and then, if
approved, the one we will submit to the membership for
approval.
Harlequin – Base color shall be pure white with black
torn patches irregularly and well distributed over the
entire body; a pure white neck is preferred. Merle
patches are normal. No patch should be so large that
it appears to be a blanket. Eligible, but less
desirable, are black hairs showing through the white
base coat which give a salt and pepper or dirty
appearance.
Proportion leg length description -
Remove the line in the standard that refers to the
proportion of 50/50.
The comments received from the membership also
indicated a preference for removal of the 50/50
proportion language as opposed to a change in it.
To be clear there is no proposal to change the
requirement that the Great Dane be square. In the
section on Size, Proportion, Substance, it already
states: In the ratio between length and height, the
Great Dane should be square.

The procedure for approval is as follows:
Revisions are submitted to AKC for input. The staff
will present the final revisions to the AKC Board of
Directors for their comment and authority for the club
to proceed to ballot the membership.
The ballot will go to the membership.
Results of the balloting go to AKC.
Ballot results that support a revision to the standard
will be placed on the agenda of the AKC board for
approval.
Upon approval by the AKC Board of Directors,
notification is sent to the Parent Club.
The approved standard is published on the Secretary’s
Page. |
