"CARDIO" STUDY IN NEED OF PARTICIPANTS:
The ongoing DCM ("cardio") study in the Great Dane being conducted by Dr.
Meurs at OSU is in need of Great Dane *FAMILIES* (enough DNA from
individual Danes diagnosed with DCM is available). The study is "stuck"
as it needs a few more families of Danes. What is needed are 3-6 individual Danes
comprising 2-3 generations where at least one family member has suffered
from "cardio." Ideally, Dr. Meurs needs both parents and
two offspring of a DCM dog, but any close family unit of 2-3 generations will be
considered. Frozen semen on dogs who are deceased can be used. The
(living) dogs will need to be examined and undergo an
ultrasound.
If you are in the Ohio area, Dr. Meurs can provide FREE ULTRASOUND (echocardiogram)
evaluations for your dog. If you are in another part of the
country, contact the person listed below and we'll see what can be done in your area.
Finding more families who can participate is now critical to this study
going forward. Won't you help us solve this deadly disease in the Dane?
If you can help, or even if you have questions, we've been given a
POC for our calls.
